Art: 5 Finest Dead Space 2 Artworks

Hello there my fellow artists hope you’re doing alright and have that passion in your heart to forgive me for slacking around the art section of Vodkronikals and just like always im justified :D and since i’ve been gaming a lot this month one of the games i’ve played was Dead Space 2 and just like the previous installment this game was a genuine artwork itself =3 everything about it was awesome, the gameplay the graphix the characters the musical companion to the action and just about everything was truly amazing and just like any artist i got inspired and even though the artwork im working on is far from completion i thought that i should share with you the finest of what i could find around the interwebs :D so here are the best 5 artworks based/inspired by Dead Space 2 from EA and Visceral Games

The first artwork is a wallpaper from Cporsdesign which portrays Isaac with his trusty Plasma Cutter that is infact his bestfriend through out Isaac’s journey away from Necromorphs and guilt in the Hacker suit, full size here :D

The second artwork is done by Ko4sk and shows off the artists imagination at its extreme and shows you how would Isaac look if he was concieved back on Newgrounds and was one of the Castle Crashes OR how Dead Space 2 would be if it was on Castle Crashers, either way the artwork is painted with skill and you can check it out in full size right HURR

The third artwork is the finest out the collection imho :) the creator GraphVick has put some thought into what he was doing and the outcome satisfies even the most picky little bitch on earth because it clearly shows that the artist was inspired directly by the Dementia trailer for the game which had elements like splatters and monochrome Necromorphs on parchment paper but GraphVick also managed to stay on track with the gameplay itself which not only consists of a really good story and concept but also has a lot of Necromorph dismemberment :D good job GraphVick and thanks for my new wallpaper, oh right you can get it right here

The fourth artwork was made by Esau13 for the first Dead Space and ofcourse i can proudly say that i had the same feeling when walking through the Ishimura and checking every corner for a lonely godforsaken Necromorph which i can lay my hands on :D and even though people say that Dead Space is scary i think that its actually conceptual and has a lot of tension rather than fear, and you can check out/download the full size HERE

And the last but not least is the fifth artwork made by EssHavoc which is downright simple but still sweet because the hardest thing to make is simplicity and ofcourse you can get this masterpiece right HURR

And thats about it and now i’ll go and finish off my tribute to this awesome franchise :D hope you enjoyed this as much as i did :D

Art: Rogier van der Weyden

All imagery displayed is courtesy of the Web Gallery of Art.

Hello there my fellow artists and artsy chicks i beg your pardon for slacking around with the art section of but i thought that before displaying artworks i must give them a little more thought and pick out only the finest from both classical and modern arts and that obviously takes a little time :)

So today we’ve got Rogier Van Der Weyden on our menu which is also known as Rogier de le Pasture (1399 or 1400 – June 18, 1464) was an Early Netherlandish painter. His surviving works consist mainly of religious triptychs, alterpieces and commissioned single and diptych portraits. Although his life and career were generally uneventful, he was highly successful and internationally famous in his lifetime -his painting were exported, or taken, to Italy and Spain despite the fact that im new to his art and dont know much about him in the first place i can still see a lot of details in his works which were missing in any other painters work ive seen so far and those details are Emotions…

It’s a well known fact that some of human emotions are self-triggered and last milliseconds for example when you feel contempt towards a subject approximately 23 muscles contract in the area of your cheekbones in addition to that your eyelids automatically close down… and all that displays the language of hate hence contempt, but those signs are out of your control and are at a subconscious level thus cannot be supressed no matter how hard you try and those were the little details that i’ve found appealing in Rogier’s works, i know that every painter includes those things in their artworks but Rogier revealed them instead of concealing them like the others and due to the fact that those sincere emotions are really shortlasting it takes some skill to catch the exact moment and to actually manipulate your model into expressing them with a 100% genuinity but Rogier managed to do that against all odds and thats exactly why he has fallen upon the list of my obsessions :)

Enough of the words and let the artworks speak, you know what they say right ? “a picture is worth a 1000 words”

Rogier van der Weyden (1400-1464)

Rogier van der Weyden (1400-1464)
Braque Family Triptych – left panel
Oil on wood

Musee du Louvre (Paris, France)

Rogier van der Weyden (1400-1464)

Gotta love how all of his artworks are connected in between each other and the intresting fact is that Rogier would skip some time and include an artwork between the 2 or 3 pieces in the series :) i can also relate to that but my artworks cant even be called “art” comparing to the ones displayed above, just take a deeper look at the feelings expressed on the wood in oil… and that’s why Rogier will forever remain as an immortal to me :D

Hope you enjoyed this as much as i did :)

Recycled Skateboard Art by Haroshi

Well its well known that every skateboarding is an industry that costs a lot of money, do you think those wooden boards are cheap ? do you think those Vans live to see a 3 week anniversary ?

But ofcourse the fun extracted out skating is worth the price of all the bruises, scars and ripped up Nikes, that feeling of satisfaction after landing a certain trick after countless and somewhat painful attempts is uncompareable to anything else, that mix of joy and sorrow after snapping a board into two seperate pieces knowing that it taught a lot of patience, presistance and determination is what inspired a quite devious artist named Haroshi from Japan to make this astonishing series of artworks made out of broken skateboard decks.

Here are some of his finest award-winning sculptures

And as tricky as skateboarding Haroshi’s artworks require a certain level of skill and patience to make because carving in 7-ply canadian maple wood isnt a walk in the park at all.

Haroshi makes his art pieces recycling old used skateboards. His creations are born through styles such as wooden mosaic, dots, and pixels; where each element, either cut out in different shapes or kept in their original form, are connected in different styles, and shaven into the form of the final art piece. Haroshi became infatuated with skateboarding in his early teens, and is still a passionate skater at present. He knows thoroughly all the parts of the skateboard deck, such as the shape, concave, truck, and wheels. He often feels attached to trucks with the shaft visible, goes around picking up and collecting broken skateboard parts, and feels reluctant to throw away crashed skateboards. It’s only natural that he began to make art pieces (i.e. recycling) by using skateboards. To Haroshi, his art pieces are equal to his skateboards, and that means they are his life itself. They’re his communication tool with both himself, and the outside world, even i myself have a stack of broken skateboard decks somewhere in the toolshed but i guess i wasn’t creative enough to actually put them to use in an actual artwork.

10 Q’s With Tahol

WHO: Tarja
From: Finland (hello neighbour!)
Where: @Deviantart

Hello there :)

Today i bring you an interview with a fellow artist ive discovered recently her name is Tarja and as far as im concerned she knows how to handle an HB pencil and she also does with a little twist towards one of the awesomest gaming industry antagonists… (right after Solid Snake and Kratos ofcourse) Raiden from the Metal Gear series.

So here you go :) hope you enjoy this as much as i did :D

Q1: Tahol you are an outstanding artist, tell us how did you get so far ?

> A: Am I? Nice to hear you think so! I don’t see mylself as an artist, I see myself as a craftsman. I was attracted to drawing from very small child, and I used to draw hours when I was a child and teenager. My father was a painter of some sort. Suddenly when I was little over 20, I lost all motivation and stopped, and did not touch in pencil for…many many years. I’m little older than your average gamer, I think. Half a year ago I was watching Raiden and thinking “God those pixels are in beautiful form, I wish I could copy that…” And then I just started again. First 5 pictures where awful, but I saw I could do better than when I was younger, and I developed in huge steps. And here we are. Something happened silently in those years when I could not draw at all.

Q2: Have you had any artistic education ? Art classes ? Or are you a learn-it-yourself artist like me ?
A: No professional training at all. I had some teaching in painting, but I never liked painting, and it was useless anyway. I did not learn anything. I learn everything best by myself.
Q3:Do you think of cartoons and comics as art? If so what was/is your favorite comic ?

> A: Absolutely! Comics are art! Even Donald Duck is art! I’m a fan of Marvel-Universe, and I’m sure there are hints of it in my style, or so people used to say. DareDevil and X-Men are my favorites, but best art you can find in old black and white Conan Barbarian-comics. They were stunning! Everything hand-drawn, beautifully shaded, Conans every muscle made carefully…I used to copy them just because they were so facinating.

Q4: Inspiration, where do you seek yours ? Or you are one of those people who can manage without it ?

> A: I can’t draw just like that. I have to see something I like. No wonder I do so much Raiden…I never get tired of his face and cyborg-body. So much details! Sometimes picture has to grow in my mind, and when I start, it comes out almost like it would make itself, and I’m just one to hold the pencil. Often I get frustrated, because I have the image in my mind, but I can’t find a model that would work, and so I can’t get the image out the way I wanted.

Q5: What is “prophecy” in your opinion?

> A: Hm. I’m a very cynical person. I believe what I see. People are too eager to believe whatever they are told to, if it gives them comfort, even it is a false comfort. I try to think myself and not believe everything. Ok, thruth is I don’t believe anything I’m told to, so yeah. And I have no religion. I always say I’m a pagan :) Though Taoism is interesting. They have some good ideas.

Q6: Other than making awesome artworks, do you have any other activities your awesome at ?

> A: Bad one. Not really. I can do this and that, but I don’t shine in anything.
Q7: Random question time… Would you rather have Isaiah Mustafa as your quantum physics tutor ? Or would you rather have 36Crazyfists as your alarm clock for eternity ?

> A: I had to Google those. And after that, my answer is that alarm-clock-thing.

Q8: Name 3 Things you do before starting a new artwork
> A:

Sit in front of the computer
– Seek the picture I’m gonna use from my models
– Stair at it and tell myself I know how todo it. Take a paper, pencils and a deep breath.

Q9: Name 3 music genres you adore
> A:

1. Folk Metal, like In Extremo.
2. Trash Metal, like early Metallica.
3. Kate Bush.

Q10: What’s next for you ? Any collabs or new projects ?

> A: Nah. You never know what happens in life. I don’t make plans. I think I’ll just keep living and learning :)

Weekly: 5 Best Scorpion Artworks

And yet again its the weekly post :)

Who doesnt know or LOVE Scorpion from Mortal Kombat ?
That’s right everyone knows and adores that revenge driven yellow ninja of oblivion :) and as we all know art is an expression and those artists right here have shown their expression towards Scorpion and awesome wrath of vengence :D

Scorpion had a ton of costumes through-out the series but one of those costumes were etched into my mind with Mortal Kombat : Deception and as obvious as it seems Epeng payed a tribute to Scorpion by drawing him in that exact costume.

By ~Espeng

Sven-da-man broke through all the rules and limitations and made a Scorpion that is truly unique and OUTSTANDING (Shao Khan reference :P )

By ~Sven-Da-Man

And ofcourse the classic movie Scorpion version made by Jaggudada left me breathless by its flawless execution and tremendous impact, because quite frankly this artwork is perfect…

By ~Jaggudada

And yet another page filled with Scorpion this time it was made by Fasslayer with a devious style :) and not to mention THIS RAIDEN ARTWORK

By ~Fasslayer

“Thought i’d try to redesign some of the characters from Mortal Kombat for fun. Here’s Scorpion! ;)

10 Q’s With Teakster

WHO: Teakster
From: UK
Where: @Deviantart @Behance @Flickr

So here are the questions :D

Q1: So Teakster share a little with us, other than making awesome artworks what other things are you good at ?

A1: Erm…..I can drink milkshake through my nose….actually I can’t. Wow, this question caught me off guard. I dunno..I can sleep quite well plus I recommend great places to eat while you are in London.

Q2: As i’ve seen you don’t limit yourself with specific style of art, i mean i’ve seen your photography and digital art but is there something you love the most ? If so then what styles are most into ?

A2: I am still an amateur in the art and photographic world but I have a huge love of textures. I guess I am still trying to discover my style plus I love trying out new things. It is all a huge learning curve.

Q3: A little irrevelant question, are hand gestures useful in an argument?

A3: Hand gestures are useful in argument. For example, the clenched fist is a great way of punching your way out of an argument. I would like point out that I don’t believe or support unnecessary random acts of violence.

Q4: Were you born an artist or did it just come along with hobbies and common intrests ?

A4: I guess I like art because it is way to express myself. I don’t dance so art is the best tool for it. Plus I don’t have plans to become a dancer either.

Q5: Is rap music getting lazier or is it just me ?

A5: I think rap has lost its roots. It used to be about struggle and being equal. Now…I don’t know what the hell they talk about.

Q6: Random question time, so would you rather go to the “Phantom of the Opera” with Marlyn Manson OR would you rather listen to Miley Cyrus interprent Immanuel Kant’s “Preptual Peace” ?

A: Could I watch Naruto instead?

Q7: The calligraphy piece’s in your gallery are truly splendid, you seem to have ties that bind you with the arabic world if not a secret, what are they ?

A7: Arabic calligraphy is probably one of the famous styles of calligraphy or typography. As for my ties to the Arabic world…..I would like to blame ‘Prince of Persia’

Q8: What’s your favorite quote, the quote that defines a lot for you ?

A8: I guess it has to be either “Don’t ask me….I’m making this up as I go along” or “I don’t follow rules, I make my own rules….and I still don’t listen to those ones either!”

Q9: Inspiration is a vital key to being an amazing artist, where does your inspiration come from?

A9: A few things help me to make great work. However, plenty of luck helps me out a lot. Sometimes the best work I make is when I don’t over think about it. I let the artistic flow take over and let it grow organically. I have a rough idea but sometimes when I finish my work; it is sometimes not what I expected it to be. Did I mention luck?

Q10: What’s your opinion : Work harder ? Or smarter ?

A10: Pay some else to do it cheaper!

Well thank you Teakster for the precious answers this interview was one of the most intresting ones so far :)

10 Q’s With Felicity Hirst aka Felix

WHO: Felicity Hirst aka Felix
From: Aberdeen, Scotland
Where: @Flickr

Felicity Hirst is an experimental photographer from Scotland, her works are quite amazing and unlike other “photographers” i’ve seen Felicity can actually take a steady shot and still get you the full emotion of the image so i decided to give her the good old 10 Q’s :) enjoy

Q1 : So Felix share a piece of yourself with us :) what do you do on a daily basis other than being an awesome artist ?
A: I get up to quite a lot actually. And i’m about to get a whole lot busier. These past few weeks I’ve been concentrating on keeping my dad smiling, after my auntie passed away from cancer on September the 3rd. keeping him smiling has been really hard work but so rewarding. Other than that I have been making plans for moving to Aberdeen for university, and getting excited for freshers week. Have to make time for photography though. There’s always something beautiful out there to capture.

Q2: Have you ever been jealous of someone else’s artwork?
A: Of course, it’s only normal. There are amazing photographers out there, and I am only an amateur in the business. Ha-ha. However why be jealous if you know you will always be different. You might not be better but who is to say what’s better, and who is to say what is art.

Q3: As an experimental photographer what practicular techniques do you use ? Or do you just go with the flow ?
A: I just basically as you say “go with the flow” to be honest, I have only been doing it for a very short time and I am always quite intimidated when people demand to know shutter speed and what lens I used etc. I basically switch my camera on, have a play around with different buttons and capture a good photo. Talent? ;) I have still got a lot to learn, and my dad has really been helping me as he has been a photographer for many years. So I guess it will all come together in time.

Q4: Concept, is it what makes the picture stand out and give an impact on the viewer ?
A: You know, I genuinely believe what makes a photo and gives impact is the passion in the artist and how they feel about the photo. I am not saying a picture of a stone is a beautiful photo and being a photographer is a keen eye and potential talent. But I do think if someone is passionate about anything whether its painting, music or photography, the impact is really set in when a person falls in love with what they are doing.

Q5: Your opinion on spoiled little brats with Canon 7D cameras which proclaim themselves as artists ?
A: Canon 7D? Try the new Canon 450D biatches. Haha. Nah to be honest it does annoy me at how many people I have seen have cameras and have had for ages, and are taking pictures all over the place. Mainly because most photographers I see are loaded, have the money to just get a camera in a heart beat, and fly all over the world to take inspirational photographs. I don’t really have anything bad to say about them, but it does annoy me that I had to work for my camera and everyone else has daddy come running with his big shiny credit card. However it is my passion, I have always been interested in it and I know i genuinely do it because I love it, not because I want the attention and a few views and comments on flickr.

Q6: Inspiration, do you need it or can you make an artwork out of anything ?

A: Well of course, inspiration goes a long way. But for me it’s simple as taking something completely ordinary and capturing its beauty through a lens. That may sound cliché or complicated but if you look at my photo’s, they are basically nothing special, they are just a moment in life when I though “hey that is beautiful” and decided to capture the moment.

Q7: “the wind settles in, the clouds are getting closer, sound the alarm we are the storm” can you relate to that ?

A: Yeh, I quite enjoy biscuits too.

Q8: Random question time, would you rather be mechanically induced to scream at the top of your lungs for an hour, or
have your eyes glued shut for a day?

A: You always get to weird questions, I knew this would happen! I think I would rather have my eyes glued shut. I can just go to sleep :D

Q9: Wallpaper or paint ?
A: Paint! I was a keen painter back in my time. And painting is a lot more expressive.

Q10: Last question !! So are you good at whistling?

A: I first whistled when I was 2. I am a pro :D

And as always thank you Felicity for the answers :) stay safe and until we meet again :D

DeviantART’s Muro

Yes, DeviantArt has released the Muro application which basically is a HTML5 based web graphic program and as an artist i’d like to break it down for the unenlighted :)

DeviantArt has been out there for 10 years now, since 2000 it was the last resort for any digital or traditional artist, a community to show off your skills and subliminal messages, ofcourse its been through tons of change and now is lacking real art, but on the bright side you can still get your work out there (unless you are on Behance or

So at about a month ago DeviantArt announced their new creation called Muro, which is infact a pretty usefull application for any artist, it has everything you need from layers to motion blur effects, but is foremostly aimed for digital painters since there isn’t any import functions whatsoever but nonetheless it still kicks ass, ofcourse its unique and still is new but here are some pieces made using Muro.

Bettas And Flowers In Muro by ~

I was left breathless after watching people making such artworks, but after snapping back into my rational and skeptic self i realized that DeviantArt aimed for more than just art, implementing the commerce into art wasn’t a wise choice, DeviantArt Muro has a default set of brushes but there is more which have to payed for and the price is within 300 DeviantArt points which is equivalent to approximately 5$ for each pack, and from my experience you might need more than one (yes im a noob at digital painting) but ofcourse you have to be a member of dA before using Muro, yes it features a plug-in that works with Wacom tablets but it still doesnt seem enough…

Even features like those don’t satisfy me

  • deviantART’s free HTML5 powered drawing app
  • 21 brushes, each uniquely programmed
  • Basic and Pro modes, both free
  • Intuitive layout and functionality
  • Supports all HTML5-enabled browsers including the iPad
  • Submit drawings directly to your deviantART Gallery
  • Convenient design allows more focus on your art

Because quite frankly the app lacks a lot other vital functions like text, pen tool and other non-painting related features, i mean the whole thing is a little too selfish and doesn’t allow photomanipulators or vector artists to do shit and drawing a retard 3 brushed piece of crap on an iPod Touch isn’t my thing, ofcourse dA is known for all the things it provides starting from stock pictures and ending with actions for GIMP, but putting up an app designed only for painting is a little self-centered…

Testing Muro by ~
Even though Muro lacks a lot of things it still remains one of the only apps that can actually be used to make art, because drawing meaningless doodles on Facebook or any other analog isn’t gonna cut it for the artwork :)

10Q’s With Maria Sizova aka MarielART

10 Questions with Maria Sizova aka MarielART

“A guilty conscience needs to confess. A work of art is a confession.”.-
Albert Camus

Who : Maria Sizova aka MarielART
From : Moscow, Russia
Style : Minimalism, Digital Painting
Where : @Deviantart , @Behance ,

Q1: Tell us a little about yourself :) what are your hobbies and intersts besides design and blogging ?

A: Well at the moment designing is more of a hobbie than a proffesion haha, but i got a lot of hobbies, im an all-arounder i like movement, i swim, ride bikes and inlines and ofcourse i love to travel, i wanna learn French and go to Paris…Movies, music and all that :) plus i have 3 yorkshire terriers, i love to take pictures with them when we go out.

Q2: Inspiration, what does being inspired mean to you ?
A:Inspiration. It is vital for any artist including me, but i myself get my inspiration mostly from the net, i love to look for artworks and sharing them with the world on my blog in addition to that i got lucky that i live in a really artistic place, the Zhostovo village.
For over 180 years this place was known for handicraft and is famous all around Russia, my mom is a painter, she paints on metallic trays which were crafted here as well, she works a lot at home and i even made her a site to showcase her works when i was 15 :D so you can basically say that i was soaked in the art sphere since day one :)

Q3: How did you start designing ? Did you have any education beforehand ?
A:Well no i never had any education, i learned everything myself from online tutorials, most of them were on Pixelmator and Photoshop and as my mom says “practice makes perfect”.

Q4: Unreal goals or really sophisticated dreams ?
A:Unreal goals.

Q5: What lies behind the concepts in your artworks?

Q6: MarielART is that your trademark ? If so where did it originate from ?
A: Mariel is my nickname and the story about it is long and old and roots back into my childhood, when i used to be intrested in fantasy, elves and Lord of The Rings.

Q7: So tell us about your upcoming projects, got anything planned yet ?
A: I think that im gonna stick with digital painting rather than minimalism for now

Q8: Random question time, would you rather have a chess match with a brain damaged horse ?
OR would you rather go to Hannah Montanna 3D ?

A: Haha, im really bad at chess and i think that i would lose even to a rival like that and on the other hand i love movies so i guess its the second option :)

Q9: “i’m living for my dying wish” any revelance to you ?
A: No, not really.

Q10: Music… is it a major part of your artistism ?
A:Ofcourse, i love music, live music where i can hear each and every instrument, it is inspirational and i also love to sing, not in the shower though :) And i have a dream, i want to play the Irish Harp ! Maybe in the future ill be able to, but for now i listen to russian folk rock, british and celtic folk :D

thank you Maria i hope you enjoyed this interview as much as i did :)
